Ajax with Ruby framework is the newest web technology nowadays. With Ruby framework, we can have a simpler and less coded applications, along with minimum configuration compared to other frameworks. However, since Ruby is new, it can be pretty hard to find a host that supports the framework. WorldTechLogic has been doing some research on the various hosts available and we want to pass what we found out on to you. The hosting companies we’ve found to have Ruby supports are:
BlueHost and HostMonster
BlueHost is our top pick for ruby on rails hosting due to their support of the framework and great uptime. For user reviews of BlueHost just visit BlueHostReviews page. They have collected reviews from different forums such as WebHostingTalk and Sitepoint and put them in one location, plus they take submitted reviews. Owned by the same person, HostMonster also supports Ruby on Rails version 1.1 and any future versions.
DreamHost is a large hosting company and currently supports Ruby on Rails. If you choose DreamHost, you can use the DreamHost Coupon “rubyrails” during signup for a big discount. Aside from that, canned CGI scripts, full CGI access, PHP4, SSH and Telnet, raw log files plus analyzed access statistics, unlimited email forwarding, aliasing, auto-responding, vanity domain names, MySQL, e-commerce, plenty of disk space and transfer allowance are also available on its numerous service plans (prices range from $9.95 to $79.95/month).
Site5 is a great company that has been around for a while and is heavily involved in the Ruby on Rails community. They also use FastCGI, are Switchtower/Capistrano-ready, EdgeRails ready, offer Subversion on all severs and a lot of their tools use Rails and are almost done with a ruby on rails utility that keeps backups of all your files for you and you can rever back to multiple different changes at any time. Very cool. If you do choose them be sure to check out their special page. They often have $10.00 rebates or free months if you check!
Lunarpages is an old company with awesome support. They offered Ruby on Rails a while back, and now all the kinks are out and we are really impressed. They have the same solid support and now ruby on rails is fully supported. Both their basic and business plan support Ruby on Rails fully. Unfortunately, Shell access is not offered. For an added benefit, they have two coupons if you sign up. The coupon “28OFFHosting” gives you $28.00 off 1 or 2 year plans. And “2MonthDeal” offers 2 extra months on 1 or 2 year plans. They are also giving away $700.00 of free CoffeeCup software with any of their orders. Just check their homepage for more info.
