Security monitoring firm Websense Security Labs (websense.com/securityalerts) announced that a Trojan Horse has been discovered in search engine giant Google’s Web site hosting service, Google Pages (pages.google.com), as reported on Yahoo News Tuesday.According to a Websense Security Alert released on Friday, an attacker has uploaded a malicious file to a Google Pages server. The Trojan lies dormant on a user’s system until the individual logs on to a banking Web site and then the Trojan attempts to steal the user’s personal information by capturing his/her keystrokes. However, the security monitoring company has not yet received any reports of bogus emails or instant messages that attempt to lure users to click on malicious links or download dangerous files.

“This is not a high-level, zero-day type of threat,” says Dan Hubbard, senior director of security research at Websense Security Labs. “But when you have this big of (an Internet site) name involved, security researchers tend to look at it.”

Google says it is removing any Web pages hosting and serving malicious files on its servers and is moving as quickly as possible to deal with the problem.

Web hosting provider 1&1 Internet (1and1.com) announced on Wednesday it is offering EasyRSS, a new tool which creates a Real Simple Syndication feed and displays it on a Web site.

EasyRSS enables users to display information updates instantly. Customers can create their own content such as news for a Web site by using the 1&1 Dynamic Content Catalog to show third-party news, create a simple podcast or create a photocast in combination with 1&1 Photo Gallery and broadcast to interested audiences.

RSS is a spam free content delivery vehicle that is protected from viruses, enabling the customer to have full control of receiving content, unlike mailing lists.

“However, we see RSS trickling down to the consumer and small businesses,” says John Cook, GM of 1&1. “For instance, a little league coach disseminating the team’s current batting averages and other statistics. In addition, it’s an ideal tool for podcasting and photocasting, which is very popular right now.”
