JPG Magazine is a web2.0 user-contributed online magazine website regarding photography. At JPG Magazine, anyone can join and upload photos to their member page, and submit them to issues and themes for consideration in the magazine. Before uploading your own photos, you will need to make sure that they are in JPG format, original, at least 2200 pixels tall or wide at 72dpi to make them work in print, and unmodified (Adjustments to color and sharpness is fine). You can then submit your favorite photos to themes. Themes are groups of photos on a common topic. You can only put one photo in each theme, and each photo can only be submitted to a single theme, so choose carefully. When a theme is scheduled to be included in an issue of JPG Magazine, the voting box will appear on each of the photos you’ve submitted to a theme. Your fellow photographers vote on your photo. Voting is about the quality of the photo as well as how well it fits the theme. Getting lots of votes doesn’t guarantee publication, but it will certainly help. The JPG Magazine editors make the final selections and put together the issue. This will take a few weeks, and you will be notified by email on the status of your submission. When the issue of JPG Magazine is published and if your photo is included, you will get a free year subscription and a $100. If not, you can try again in the next issue. JPG Magazine is published 6 times a year by 8020 Publishing.

Overall, JPG Magazine offers a very simple interface where you can upload your photos, and vote (or get voted) to have your photos included in the offline printed magazine. It’s a simple idea that gives opportunities for people to show off their work in print and get cash at the same time. If you are a photographer or people who just love to take photos, then this is the place for you. If not, well, you might want to check out the many great photos made by other people, and probably vote to get them published.
