Tag Clouds have been around for some time now. A tag cloud, in case you don’t know, is a visual depiction of content tags used on a website. Often, more frequently used tags are depicted in a larger font or otherwise emphasized. So the more popular your tag is, the bigger it gets. One such website that offers a free tag service is TagACloud.
TagACloud is a web2.0 ajax-based Tag Cloud application that calculates how big your tag is depending on your “level”. The idea of TagACloud is to create a tag that represents your website, assign points to it depending on how many clicks it gets, calculates the size of your tag in the Tag Cloud. So the only way your tag will get bigger is by accumulating points and levels up. Points can be acquired in many different ways, but the two primary ways to acquire points are as follows:
- Get Clicked: your tag gets 1 point for every click that your tag receives.
- Incoming Hits: your tag gets 2 points for every hit you send to your tag on TagACloud. You can get tag specific code via your “Get Tag Code†page.
TagACloud provides visitors several ways to find your tag:
- The Home Page: The home page features 200 random tags in random order.
- Popular Tags: If your tag is one of the 200 most popular today, last week, month, or of all time, it will be featured in order of popularity on the respective pages.
- Keywords: Keywords are essential for any tag that wants to generate hits. Keywords are kind of like user-defined categories. Each tag can have up to 3 keywords associated with it.
- The Randomizer: The page where users can view a random tag’s website, or view a random keyword.
Overall, TagACloud is a nice tag cloud application with a twist. It provides a new idea by implementing points and levels to either change your tag or add keywords.
