There are many online collaboration applications today. Each offers their own line of features and functionality to help the users collaborate easily. With the many such applications, rooms for improvements and innovations are always there. One with such points is CentralDesktop.
CentralDesktop is a web2.0 ajax-based collaboration tool for teams and business teams alike to efficiently share information and communicate with others both inside and outside the firewall. CentralDesktop integrates real-time collaborative features into a traditional groupware environment, providing a set of tools to accommodate different ways of collaborating with customers and partners. With CentralDesktop, you can have several workspaces. A Workspace is a microsite (website) where small teams can come together and share information. Workspaces can be password protected and available by invitation only (Private) or available to anyone who has access to the Workspace URL (Public). Related to individual permissions as well as the Workspace permissions, members can edit webpages and contribute files and content to a project without having to go through a website administrator. The flexibility of typing and formating text, inserting images and documents and consolidating tasks into a central location makes Workspaces ideal for managing projects and creating team intranets.

CentralDesktop users create Workspaces to segment “work” into projects, teams, departments or purpose. You can create a Project Management, WIki, or a website Type of collaborative workspaces. There are 2 types of CentralDesktop plans which you can choose from, and they are the Team Plans and Company Plans.
- Team Plan Workspaces
With the team plan, the user that created the Workspace is the owner of the Workspace along with all of its information. The Workspace Administrator can invite or delete other members in the Workspace. The Workspace Administrator also controls the permission levels of each member and decides whether or not each member can Read, Edit, Add or Delete information in the Workspace. Workspaces are owned and administered by individuals and are available to subscribers of Plan 1 ($34 /month) or Plan 2 ($66 /month). Team Workspaces are suitable for small teams working on projects. - Company Plan Workspaces
Company Plan Workspaces are for businesses that desire additional security and wish to retain corporate ownership of the collective knowledge captured in the Workspace. Company Plan Workspaces ensure that the content and intellectual property created within the Workspace, stay with the corporation, even if the employee leaves the company. Company Plans allow for one or more people to be designated as Administrators who control whether or not each member can Read, Edit, Add or Delete information in the Workspace. Company Plan Workspaces are only available to subscribers to Plans 3 (starts at $ 132/month) or higher. Team plan workspaces are included within the Company plan workspaces.
Each CentralDesktop user will have their own Personal Workspace. This Workspace is accessible only by its respective user. The Personal Workspace is not sharable and is ideal for organizing personal information such as notes, tasks and files. With the Free CentralDesktop Plan, users will have limited activities (creating a task, creating a new page, starting a discussion, replying to a discussion etc.) of 100 activities per calendar month. Depending on your needs, opting for paid plans ranges from $ 34 – $ 333 /month. To check out our microsite workspace test, you can click HERE.
Overall, CentralDesktop offers amazing features for people working together as teams, or within a company. WorldTechLogic has posted about a similar application in the past called Wrike. Unlike Wrike, CentralDesktop offers a more arrays of features. While Wrike only focuses on managers, CentralDesktop focuses more on the overall collaboration of teams (including their managers). It took us a while to explore every features of CentralDesktop, and we’ve found that it is one of the best online collaborations and team / project management applications out there. I can only think of BlueTie and Cyn.In as CentralDesktop’s competitors. If you’re in a team, or within a company, and would like to have a tool to manage your teams and projects, we would highly recommends CentralDesktop. However, if you want free applications with 20 users in default, you might want to go with BlueTie instead, or even Wrike with its unlimited amount of users.
To signup for a CentralDesktop account, you can click HERE! We would also like to thank SaaS-a-Fras for the heads up.
