SlideShare: The YouTube for PowerPoint Presentations

slideshare_logo.pngOnline presentations using Power Point or OpenOffice documents have become a necessity today. Instead of carrying a copy around on a USB drive (or any storing devices), we want to let people see our presentations online, through the web. Lectures, Marketing and Conference presentations will become more efficient and effective that way. Finding a web service that does that can be hard. Now, we present SlideShare.

SlideShare is a web2.0 ajax-based free web service for sharing presentations and slideshows. You can upload your presentation files, tag them, embed them into your blog or website, browse others’ presentations, and comment on individual slides. It’s a great way to share your ideas with others, or to learn from other people. SlideShare currently supports PowerPoint (PPT and PPS formats), and OpenOffice (ODP format). SlideShare supports a maximum file size of 20 MB at the moment. To embed a presentation into your blog or website is pretty easy. First view the presentation on SlideShare. On each page, you’ll see a text box called “embed”, with a generated code in it. Just copy and paste the code into a blog posting or web site, then you would get a little embedded slideshow in your blog or web site. Unfortunately, if your presentation contains slide transitions, they are likely to be lost because SlideShare does not support slide transition for now. We’ve tried SlideShare ourselves. Check it out HERE! We’ve embedded it in our posting as well.

Overall, SlideShare is an excellent tool to have for your presentation needs. Reminding you of YouTube, SlideShare shares a somewhat familiar look and feel. If you like YouTube, you will definitely like SlideShare .
