modoshi_logo.pngFinding the right online deal takes effort. You find a deal, purchase it and move-on. Everybody repeats this process over and over. It’s a tiring circle when it comes to finding the right products we want, with the quality we expect. Purchasing products online is not without its share of the problems. What if the products we buy are not the ones we expected it to be? What if there’s a better bargain at some other places? What if? Well, not anymore with Modoshi.

Modoshi is a next generation shopping community that helps consumers by channeling their collective intelligence towards saving money. It provides you with the technology to make it easy to share shopping related information. The name “Modoshi” itself is derived from the Japanese word meaning giving back. The Modoshi website does not sell anything and is absolutely free to use.

Modoshi started on the premise with a question: “What if there was a place where people could share what they found and others could just buy using their deal posted”. So, a neighbor could post that cool digital camera that he found so that his neighbors and relatives could just purchase it. A grandson could help his grandpa by doing research about the right LCD TV to buy, and instead of picking up the phone or passing the info in an email, just post it to Modoshi. And likewise, any community member could help a shopper save.

Then comes the true incentive for deal posters to participate: Modoshi will pay the original posters of the products. So, now, the neighbor and the grandson is getting paid for finding the right toys or camera or LCD Monitor. And likewise, any member posting a deal and helping other shoppers save, will get rewarded. And for shoppers, Modoshi goes that extra mile to make sure that shoppers have all information at their discretion. All content posted is verified and re-verified. With help of the community, Modoshi identifies that two items with a slightly different name at two merchants’ site are actually the same. For every item posted, Modoshi identifies ‘New Low’ and price-history across all merchants. The shopper gets to vote on deals and help others identify good deals. All items are grouped together to optimize buying decision. Modoshi computes ‘deal rank’ for every deal, by a sophisticated algorithm based on the merchant, item, current price, average price, past-low price and the performance of a deal.

Modoshi has indeed taken the shopping experience to a higher level. The idea of letting people post products they buy itself is an excellent one, not to mention giving back (hence the name, “Modoshi“) to the posters their part of the contributions to the online community.
